Traquair House & Brewery

Tucked away near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, Traquair House is the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland, with a history dating back over 900 years. Once a royal hunting lodge, it became home to the Stuart family in 1491 and has remained in their care ever since. The house has welcomed monarchs such as Mary, Queen of Scots, and still holds treasures like her bed, cradle, and a hidden priest’s chamber.

Visitors today can explore more than 50 atmospheric rooms filled with original furniture, portraits, and centuries of history. The grounds are equally captivating, featuring one of Scotland’s largest hedge mazes, woodland walks, ancient yews, and peaceful gardens. A café and craft workshops on the estate add to the experience.

One of Traquair’s most distinctive features is its historic brewery. Revived in the 1960s, it continues to produce award-winning ales using traditional oak vessels, with brews such as Traquair House Ale and Jacobite Ale enjoyed around the world.

Still a lived-in family home, Traquair offers visitors a rare glimpse of Scotland’s past, blending heritage, hospitality, and the unique taste of its famous beers.
